Main Features

  • Outline: The outline features a wide point pushed forward, generous volume under the chest for superior paddle power, and parallel rails running through the middle. It pulls into a deep, straight swallowtail that provides lift and holds the rail through turns.
  • Foil (Volume Distribution): The foil is sleek and distributed to provide paddle buoyancy, yet performance-oriented. The deck is relatively flat, concentrating volume through the center, while the rails are medium-to-low and fine, which helps the board sit in the wave face and provides immediate response.
  • Rocker: A low, flat entry rocker ensures early wave catching and maximum trim speed across flat sections. The tail features an elevated exit rocker with a touch of V, enhancing maneuverability and making it more responsive to back-foot pressure for critical turns than a traditional, flatter fish.
  • Bottom Concave: The bottom contours flow from a slight vee in the nose, transitioning into a single-to-deep double concave through the fins, and finishing with a vee off the tail tip. This combination generates lift and speed while providing easy rail-to-rail transitions.

How we built it -

Two colour spray glassed a bit lighter to keep the weight down (4x4x4) with an extra patch on the tail to strengthen that back foot area.

How It Surfs

The 'Lil Fish' lives up to its name, offering an incredibly fast and drivey ride with a loose, skatey feel. The extra volume makes it easy to paddle, allowing you to get into waves early. Once up and riding, the board flies down the line with minimal effort, easily gliding over flat sections where other boards would bog down. The modern features allow you to push harder through turns, performing smooth, drawn-out carves and quick wraps, rather than just the classic, flowy lines of a retro fish. It's a lively and fun machine that encourages creative expression and speed in marginal conditions.

Recommended Fins and Waves

  • Recommended Fins: The board works best as a dedicated twin fin with modern, performance-oriented fins, such as the FCS II Power Twin fin set or the Futures EN Twin fins.  These templates offer a good balance of drive and control compared to classic, larger keel fins, which provide a more retro, flowy style. A rear fin box can be added to accommodate a small stabiliser fin for added control in bigger surf if desired.
  • Ideal Waves: The "Lil Fish' thrives in small to medium-sized waves (around 1 to 4 feet), including weak or mushy conditions and slow-rolling point breaks. Its speed and lift capabilities make the most of less powerful surf, though the modern design allows it to handle up to head-high, punchy beach breaks with good control.
